Sam Carter
Takes Cloverleaf Bowl 5-5-55 Title
Sam Carter averaged 257 over the five-game route to take the championship at our annual 5-5-55 Tournament at Fremont's Cloverleaf Bowl on June 7th. Carter battled it out all day with a host of other top bowlers, but emphasized both his skill and his tenacity by tossing 11 strikes his final game to close with a 279 and a 49-pin margin over runner-up Garrie Yacap.
Yacap is always a serious contender, a fact he emphasized when he rolled a 300 his final game to move four slots up the leaderboard and into the runner-up position.
Carter earned $350 plus sidepot money for his win; Yacap took home $200 plus sidepot money.
We had 43 bowlers for this event, our annual 5-5-55 Tournament. Competitors bowled "5" games across "5" pairs of lanes, paying a low $"55" entry fee. Coupled with our generous 1-3 payout ratio, 15 bowlers made the trek to the pay window; last-cash paid $65. The last-cash score was 1,133 - a 226 average.
Other Top 15 cashers included (in order of finish) Jason Ross, Russ Greiner, Steven Ting, Jerrold Serrell, Jim Joy, Zarcoff Boutell, Russ Keith, Noah Berger, Todd Tadiello, Anthony Blakeley, Joe Bishop, Scott Vanderlick, and LaTorras Brickley. Eddie Kunkel didn't make the Top 15, but he took home some sidepot money.
Three competitors notched 300 games. As noted earlier, Garrie Yacap ended his day with 12 strikes. On the other end of the afternoon, Jason Ross started the tournament with a perfect game. Russ Keith was perfect in the middle of the tournament - the third game, to be precise.
Many thanks to all who turned out for this event, with a special nod to the 11 "PRO first-timers" who made the trip to Cloverleaf Bowl.
Finally, a big Thank You to Craig Pearsall and Michelle Bierman of Cloverleaf Bowl, who welcomed us with their usual can-do attitudes and outstanding customer service.
