5th Annual Junior/Senior
Classic Doubles

January 14, 2012
West Lane Bowl - Stockton

Many apologies – I wrote this weeks ago and thought I’d sent it out. Smart, huh?

This year saw an “all senior” duo climb their way to the top of a very tough 34-team field. Jerry Kennedy and Joe Barket claimed the 2012 title, putting together a whopping 3,861 total pinfall over the eight-game route (a 241 per-bowler average) to take the $1,500 winner’s share of the prize fund.

Although the Kennedy-Barket duo was at or near the top of the leaderboard all day, the outcome of the tournament wasn’t decided until the final game. The day was a dog fight from Game 1, a situation that marked the tone of the day’s competition.

Kennedy-Barket led the tournament after three games with a +283 total and a 20-pin lead over the team of Marty Deh-Greg Thompson, Jr.
After five games, Kennedy-Barket still led the tournament, with the strong Rory Peterson-Tim Hill team, Deh-Thompson, and the all-senior team of Dennis Jones-Bill Cooley in pursuit.

After seven games, it was anybody’s ball game. Deh-Thompson were in the lead – but barely -- with +561, as Kennedy-Barket lurked behind by a mere 13 pins and Peterson-Hill stayed dangerously close, just 16 pins off the pace. Jones-Cooley were in the hunt, 60 pins behind the leaders, but given that they’d turned in the day’s high game – a smokin’ 557 – they remained a threat.

Game 8 saw Deh-Thompson register an impressive 448 total, but Kennedy-Barket turned on the afterburners, notching a 513 finale to leapfrog to the top with a +661 total and the tournament title. Deh-Thompson took the runner-up spot (+609), trailed by Jones-Cooley (+581), and Peterson-Hill (+565). Craig Donaldson-PJ Haggerty rounded out the Top Five with a +494 total.

The other Top 12 cashers included Dave Bolles-Freddy Irvin (+469), Sam Carter-Ron Case (+457), Mal Cowan-Joe Petrovich (+454), Rodney Garrick-Tony Tsui (+428), Curtis Cole-Anthony Thompson (+415), Harry Fong-Kioni Seddaria (+378) and last year’s winning team, Doug Leeworthy-Jon Leeworthy (+377).

Other cashers on the day included the teams of Curt Lehner-Robby Porter, Ray Lucas-Bubba Shaull, Scott Hansel-Bill Nichols, Milo Coronado-Scott Christensen and Bob Roak-Scott Roak.
Our thanks go out to the 68 bowlers who spent a beautiful day indoors even as the golf courses, warm weather and 49ers playoff game beckoned. Without your support, there would be no Junior/Senior Classic Doubles.

And finally, thanks once again to Diane Marsiano and her West Lane Bowl team for their amazing support of this annual event. We’ll be back in 2013 for the 6th Annual Junior/Senior Classic Doubles.
